the vineyard
Rooted in family heritage and inspired by Orange, CT's rich farming history, our vineyard is a testament to hard work and passion. In the 1970s, Pietro and Antonietta immigrated from Italy, bringing with them a deep connection to the land. Pietro had been a shepherd in the village of Gioia Sannitica, while Antonietta cultivated peaches and tobacco in Santa Maria Capua Vetere.
In 2008, nostalgia for their roots and a shared dream inspired them to purchase a parcel of farmland in Orange. Today, over 5,000 vines thrive on our property, producing exceptional whites like Cayuga White, Vidal Blanc, Riesling, Traminette, and Chardonnay, as well as bold reds like Cabernet Franc, Marquette, and Chambourcin.

In 2020, three sisters brought a long-held family vision to life, transforming Stappa Vineyard into a place to share their wine with the community. Raised in the hospitality industry and influenced by summers in Italy, moving into the world of wine was a natural step.
Alexa Charles, with years of experience crafting table wines alongside their father, became Stappa’s associate winemaker, bringing expertise and a hands-on approach to the winery.
At Stappa Vineyard, winemaking is more than a craft—it’s a way of life. We harvest with our children and pets, honoring the land that shaped our family’s journey. Each bottle reflects our Italian roots and commitment to creating exceptional, authentic wines.
